Sunday, July 17th., 2022…… We had picked up a little last night and I loaded up some stuff in the
truck, so we only had a little bit to do this morning. We brought the truck in
and hooked up. I had an easy path out. Yaay!
We got the bikes and the dogs loaded and we were on the road and home
before 10:00am. Of course, I needed to get everything unloaded and put away
before I was ready to say, “I’m done!’ Once we were, I was! I spent the rest of
the day catching up on many taped races. Still have more to go!
Monday, July 18th., 2022…… Cathye has her eye surgery tomorrow. They don’t know the exact check-in
time until the day before so while we were out to breakfast this morning, they
called and told her to be there at 11:15. I also needed to leave the garage
doors open so the pest control guy could do his job. Turns out he came while we
were out! Cool! The rest of the day was
spent on a few tasks – grocery shopping, working on the blog, and working on
some sprinkler head repairs. I had several
flowerbed sprinklers that were old and brittle and had cracked and/or were
clogged, so they needed to be changed out. I also had two lawn risers that were
working but not oscillating, so they were replaced as well. That would only be
for the main lawn area. I still have work to do on the secondary system which
is on the other side of the driveway. But at least the main system is good to
go now.
Tuesday, July 19th., 2022…… Cathye’s eye surgery is later in the morning so I went back out and spent
a few minutes on the risers around the back porch. They were dug up a few
months ago and left loose in the ground. While they still work, I needed to
disconnect them because they weren’t doing anything except flooding the area. I
capped those and was done working for the day. It was time to head off to
Eugene for surgery. Cathye had decided many years ago that she wanted to have
her eyelids corrected. They are both ‘droopy’ and while they cause no medical
issues, her ophthalmologist has told her she has to work harder than normal to
open her eyes fully. They can correct this with a ½ hour procedure where they
remove some skin from the eyelids and suture back so the eyes are more open at
rest. They say only a few weeks recovery time and she wanted to do this. So,
today is the day! I went in with her but left to walk through the local shops
down the street but came back and waited. She was in and out in an hour, which
included recovery time. They gave her a sheet of instructions for home care and
phoned in some pain meds and we were off. Frozen peas and carrots over the eyes
every hour for 20 minutes for the first two days. By the time we got home she
wanted the pain meds so off I went. It is Tylenol w/codeine and pretty quickly
took the edge off and she was able to relax. After a few hours, we noticed the
swelling and the bruises which they said were normal and will likely darken
tomorrow and then gradually go away after a few days. I took a pic before…
And they took one in recovery after….
And I took one of her relaxing with the ice bags...
We expect to see more swelling tomorrow but she is regimented and will
continue the process to hopefully lessen the recovery time. The good thing is
that she said on the way home that it’s a lot less effort to open her eyes
fully now! That’s what we wanted! I made
us chicken and black bean burritos for dinner. Now this is one recipe I have in
my arsenal from many years ago and Cathye has never had until now. She really
liked it! I have one more planned that I can made easily enough. I also have to
make another ‘death by chocolate’ for a party on Saturday afternoon. So, we had
previously gone shopping and have all of the ingredients for all of those three
dishes. So, I’m happy about that!
Wednesday, July 20th., 2022…… They want her elevated so having
the adjustable bed worked perfectly last night!
But, as expected, there is more color and more swelling so we are back
to ice bags. But she says there is a lot less pain, especially when she stays
put! So, I have to watch her closely and keep her immobile! Later, Corey and
Brittany brought Brandon and Lilly over for a quick visit. That allowed me to
go run some errands. I wanted to go catch a sale at Office Max. They have an
office chair I wanted so I drove over to Corvallis for that. I also made a stop
at Lowes and got an attachment for my pressure washer. When I got home, Cathye
was resting comfortably, with Jama by her side! I made us leftover burritos and
we settled in and watched tv until bedtime.
Thursday, July 21st., 2022…… Looking much better this morning!
The swelling is still there and there is discoloration, but for the most
part, she is not in too much pain. We have nothing on the schedule so she can
relax and enjoy the day. Problem is she is so bored! She is not used to being inactive and wants
to get up and do something! “Let’s go
walk the steps at the high school! We need to get ready for our hike up Diamond
Head!” Not so fast, sweetie! The doctor said you are not allowed any
exercise for 7-10 days! So, we hang around the house and she busies herself by
making notes about things to do when she can get going again. Tonight, I made us Squiggly Noodle Casserole.
Again, she likes it! Another nice quiet
evening of tv programs and an early night.
Friday, July 22nd., 2022…… Waayy better today!
The weather has been extremely hot these last few days, with more of the
same starting again on Sunday. But it is supposed to be a little overcast and
cloudy and cooler today. So, that means that today is my mowing day. Of course,
Cathye is not allowed to do any of that work yet, so I planned on doing it
myself. Penny has been checking in on Cathye these last few days and knew I was
going to mow, and volunteered to come over. I gassed up the mowers and started
out before she got here. I was able to finish up the yard and then went out and
helped her mow the field grass. We made quick work of it and got everything
cleaned up and put away in a couple of hours. I made the brownies and pudding
and got those in the fridge, ready for tomorrow.
Saturday, July 23rd., 2022…… Penny and Cherrelyn have had my truck and were
running some more errands, moving more small furniture, including her desk and
chair, to Cherrelyn’s place, now that she has her internet set up there. They
brought the truck back, along with some excess cardboard that I volunteered to
cut up and put in my recycle. But not today! I had to assemble the ingredients
for my DBC and get it into a trifle dish and in the fridge to chill. We set out
with the dogs around noon. David and Oma
Lea live up in the foothills just west of Philomath (Corvallis area). Their
place is gorgeous and we arrived and found the gardens in full bloom! I thought Cathye took pics but I was wrong. Anyway, they had asked us to bring the pups
to meet their new dog. They recently had adopted Abby, a Golden/Pyrenees mix,
that they found abandoned, and after a very conscientious effort to find an
owner, which was in vain, now have welcomed her into their life. She is a sweet
girl and she and Rylee hit it off and had a lot of fun playing and exploring
the property. Not so much for Jama, who did not like her getting too close to Cathye
while she was on her lap. It was on and I had to pull Abby off of Jama. No harm
done though, and we were able to keep them calm the rest of the visit. The
other couple that was coming had cancelled but no worries. We had a nice visit
meal and they enjoyed my dessert. We headed home with a pretty empty trifle
dish! When we made the drive back home,
Cathye said that the day had taken a lot out of her and she needed to rest her
eyes and take a pain pill. She slept and I headed off to my room to watch the
Tour and a few Nascar and Motocross races, before checking back in on her. The
rest helped and she was feeling better. She realizes that she is not a miracle
healer and will need to reel it in a bit, at least for the next few days
anyway! We ate leftovers and retired around 10:00pm after a fun, but tiring
day!
