Oregon Living 2025 – Blog #23 – Celebrating a Birthday and Father’s Day, and then a Party at Our Place!

Sunday, June 15th., 2025……  HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHERRELYN!   HAPPY FATHERS DAY! The plan today was to go over to Penny’s to celebrate Cherrelyn’s birthday and Father’s Day as well. It was a fun afternoon!  Penny gave her a collapsible tent for her backyard to help protect against bugs on her patio. We got it set up ok. But the real fun came when we had to fold it back up to fit in the bag!  I think it took 4 of us a ½  hour just for that!  But it was fun anyway!

Monday, June 16th., 2025…… We had heard from Treasa last week. Bill is now in home hospice. She shared that most of his stints have collapsed and he’s not doing well. He will turn 82 in July.  She has kept me posted each day. Going downhill. Treasa is hanging in there. Family is close by.  It made me think about all of the great times I had with Bill before we all moved out of Calif. Many rv trips. Many dances and meetings. And rv shows where we would both slobber on the expensive rigs! So many fond memories. Sure hope for the best.

Cat and I have been looking at leather jackets on Facebook Marketplace. And today we went just down the road to look at one.  It was nice and the price was good – but it was a little too small. Too bad - but it gives us a guide to what size to look for in the future.

Tuesday, June 17th., 2025……  Today was more yard work and the workshop. I showed Cathye a couple of jackets on FB, and she is in contact with a lady in Stayton. They made plans to meet at 3:30 today. So, she will pick me up after the workshop and we’ll drive out to check it out. Ok, it’s later now – we met up with the lady who actually had 3 jackets. Turns out both her and her hubby had CanAm Spyders. They moved on to a motorhome (coincidentally, almost a twin of ours!) so they were selling the jackets. They were ridiculously priced - $20 & $25 each. Two fit so we bought both of them!

We talked about the great deal we just got all the way home!  We went back to work a bit on the yard and spread more of the bark mulch. I think I'm only about halfway through the pile so far!

What we have put down needed to be blown back in place so Cat took care of that. Rylee (and Mr. Quackers) watched!

Wednesday, June 18th., 2025……  I heard from Treasa early this morning. She said Bill had  passed peacefully in his sleep last night. Nick came over and it was a long night.  Sad news. Bill holds a very special place in my life and was always a great friend. I have many great memories with him and Treasa and he will truly be missed.

We want to mow today. It was not too hot out but the grass was drying out nicely. It would be good to mow around noon so that’s when I told Penny to come over. I had the mowers out and got them all gassed up and ready with the baggers attached. But before I could put the one on my zero turn, I noticed that Rick had gone down to Lou’s house and was mowing there!  So I got my gear on and took the zero turn down there. We split the yard with me mowing the main lawn. It was so high that I wasn’t able to get a nice clean cut but it is better than it was! Once that was done, I came back and rested for a few minutes before starting in on our lawn. Penny came over and the girls mowed the main lawn and bagged it, while I worked on the lawn on the west side of the driveway. Together we got it done in a few minutes. The only thing to do now is to set up the popups and the small canopy. The rest of the campers wanted me to wait until they got there so they could help so we were done for the day.  Later, I was in my room resting and watching tv when Cat texted, asking where I was. I said in my room and she asked where the truck was?  Oops, it dawned on me then! Yesterday, Cat picked me up at the senior center and we drove to get her jackets. We were so excited about them that I forgot to stop and pickup my truck!  We jumped in the Buick and headed over, all the time I'm thinking that the $45.00 jackets price just went up if they towed the truck and I would have to pay to get it out of impound! But, when I turned the corner I was very relieved to see it was still there! Whew!

Thursday, June 19th., 2025…… We have time this morning to bring out and set up more things for the party. I got all of the ice chests out and Cathye got the drink server out and ready. She wants to make some kind of herb tea thingy.  I think we are ready!  Mike showed up first with his rig and got plugged in and set up. Maryanne told Frank that she smelled something musty or rank in their fifth wheel and she doesn’t want to camp in it until he finds and fixes it, so they won’t be camping with us this time. But they came over later as did Cheryl who was working their vendor booth at the street market today. The girls have split up the cooking assignments. Tonight, Cathye made her famous chicken pot pie and the girls brought side dishes and desserts. We first played Pegs and Jokers. Mike and Cheryl knew it and Frank and Maryanne quickly learned it. We played guys against the girls and the guys barely squeaked out victory!  We then played that new card game that we had learned last week. It’s called Swoosh. We all enjoyed the evening.

Friday, June 20th., 2025…… Today we started out with breakfast for the four of us. Cheryl brought eggs from their chickens and we had sausage and fruit and cinnamon buns and coffee. It was yummy!  Later, we sat in the house and watched it rain!  No one was going out today to set up popups and canopies!  It really came down!  Now we have to rethink our plans. I’m sure the yard will still be too wet for the awnings so I plan to put them on the gravel area by the raised beds. That is if the weather clears!  We hung around the house together most of the day and visited.  Frank and Maryanne came over later and it was Cheryl’s turn for dinner. She made an enchilada casserole and the girls provided the side dishes. We started the evening playing Mexican Train. Maryanne made domino carriers and we all tried them out. Shaun and Lila made it here around 7:30 and got set up with their trailer. We saved them dinner. Later, we all played Swoosh until it was time to quit and call it a night.

Saturday, June 21st., 2025…… Same scenario as yesterday with the weather. It rained really hard most of the day. The forecast is for clearing skies later today. Frank and Maryanne were no shows this morning. Shaun and Lila made eggs and we had a nice breakfast. The coffee pot took a crap and we had to improvise. But we managed. Time for another one! We hung around the house until it was time to go down to Brownsville for the Pioneer Days celebration. Shaun was doing an exhibition dance for the Squarenaders and they always welcome our Club to come help. We ate lunch there and danced from 2:00 to 3:30, then came back home. Later, we all played Swoosh again. This was the first weekend that Shaun and Lila had seen the game, but they have quickly picked it up and were beating all of us for a while!  The weather finally is showing signs of clearing up. But we will decide tomorrow what to set up and where.

Here are pics from the weekend so far….
