Sunday, November 24th., 2024…… So far, it’s a quiet day. I miss Cat. But I have been keeping occupied. I’m working on updating my spreadsheets for the cruise and the notes for the New Year’s dance, and of course working on the blog! Football and F1 racing for me today. I walked and fed the dogs and then made breakfast and coffee and got started. The weather here is pretty dreary. Cold and gray and some rain. The rain is supposed to move out and they say we’ll have clear skies for Thanksgiving! But I am definitely in long pants now! I heard from Cat later in the evening and she shared her day.....
Monday, November 25th., 2024…… I have a dental appointment this
morning. Actually, it’s scheduled for noon. So, I had time this morning to wait.
I needed to go to Walmart but I thought I’d go after the dentist, since it’s
just across the road from there. They took x-rays and the Dr. did an exam (no
issues) and then Amanda did a pretty deep clean this time. So, I’m sure I’ll
have sore gums for the rest of this week.
I talked with Cathye a few times today. Since she has an early flight (5:15am
CST) tomorrow, she and Micheal and Crystal are going to drive from Dixon to
Springfield today and stay in a hotel room close to the airport. She said they stopped
along the way at Uranus (a local roadside attraction famous for fudge and
trinkets) and then made the drive to Springfield and went to the Bass Pro Shop
(the mother ship) and then on to some vintage stores around town, before
checking in to the Holiday Inn Express for the evening.
Tuesday, November 26th., 2024…… Yep, sore gums and my jaw hurts
from it being open for the cleaning. Today Cat comes home! Her flight gets in
to PDX at 11:17am. Since today and tomorrow are the busiest for airport travel,
I anticipate that the traffic coming and going will be intense. So, after I
heard from her from her stopover in Dallas, I left home (around 9:15am) and
headed up. I was surprised that traffic on I-5 was moving and I made good time getting
up to the cell phone waiting lot. Her flight was a few minutes early but since
she did a baggage check at the gate, she had to wait for luggage. But the
pickup was easy and uneventful, and we were soon on our way home! We got back and she unpacked and discovered
some things she had left in Michael’s truck! He and Crystal will be mailing her
disabled placard, a phone charger, and some gifts from Bass Pro Shops. Oh well,
I guess that made for lighter luggage! Once
she was done with all of that, she relaxed for the day. Later, I went out and
got us KFC for dinner. Penny was here and joined us for that.
Wednesday, November 27th., 2024…… Nothing much planned for today. It
was cold out, but no rain, so we left to go to The Point for breakfast and then
went shopping. We went to the Dollar Tree and picked up tablecloths and
decorations for the New Year’s Eve dance party. We also stopped at BiMart where
we got a case of Martinelli’s sparkling cider for the toast. When we got back, we spent the rest of the day
getting all of the Christmas stuff down from the garage racks. I lugged them to
the back porch so they will be ready to go after Thanksgiving. Later, we went
over to Penny’s for lasagna! Cherrelyn joined us and it was nice. Cherrelyn is
going up to Washington (Longview) to spend Thanksgiving with her son, so it was
nice to see her today! The meal was great and we had a nice visit. Cathye has
some jet lag so we headed home later and rested for the evening. Hot tub and
then an early bedtime.
Thursday, November 28th., 2024…… HAPPY THANKSGIVING! As I said, no Cherrelyn this year. The grandkids are going to spend the day with Corey’s mom, so we only will have Penny and Jamie this year. So, Cathye had ordered a meal from Safeway. She went there at 10:00am to pick it up. When she got back, we sorted through it. The turkey was still in the plastic bag with its feet tied up! But, it was fully cooked and only needed to be heated up (2 hrs.). We unwrapped it and took the plastic ties off and transferred it to her aluminum tray and got it going. Also in the package were mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing, each in their microwave containers (3-5 minutes each), plus rolls and cranberry sauce. Penny came over and later, Cat went to pick up Jamie. We had a nice but quiet day. The meal turned out well, but not something Cat wants to buy again.
She took Jamie home and we spent the rest of the day lounging
around the house and relaxing.
Friday, November 29th., 2024…… This morning we were up and going
early. It is still pretty cold. I think it was 39° when we walked the dogs. It
was overcast but no rain. We fed the girls and had breakfast then took our Yeti
mugs filled with coffee and headed down to Eugene. We had tickets for the
10:30am showing of Wicked. We like this theater because all of the seats
recline. We got the obligatory popcorn and candy and coke and settled in. We
both liked the movie. It was really very closely following the play so we
enjoyed that. But beware - there is a part 2 coming!
Saturday, November 30th., 2024…… Today was spent getting the house ready for
Christmas. We moved the furniture around. Since my recliner is in the corner
now, we needed a new place for the tree. We decided to put it in the opposite
corner, next to the window. So, we needed to move the loveseat and temporarily
move the glass table out on the front porch. I lugged the tree parts in and got
that assembled and the lights hooked up. This tree is secondhand (we got it
from Penny when we were still in SoCal) and over the years, some of the light
strings will just not work. Others need some persuasion. But for this year, we
will still use it. I found three sets of string lights in my boxes and they
worked to supplement the rest. That was as far as we got today. Cathye spent
the morning working on deboning the turkey carcass for soup. In the last
several days, we have each received two healthy-food-boxes from our insurance provider.
We got fruits and veggies, so much we have too many! We needed to get ready for tonight. We are
driving up to Salem to host a dance, the Fall Festival. Cathye made a veggie
and fruit tray from all of our boxes and we picked up Lynn and headed up. I
wasn’t in the mood to dance tonight (headache), so I stayed in the kitchen and
helped out Joe and Linda. Linda has back issues so I knew it was the right
choice for tonight. Cat danced with Frank and Joe was Lynn’s partner while I
helped Linda out. After we left and
dropped off Lynn, we headed back home and went straight to bed. Both of us had
headaches, so it was nice to hit the bed and sleep.
