Sunday, April 12th., 2026…… A lazy Sunday for both of us!
After getting us breakfast, we settled in for the day and watched tv. The rains
are still around but today was just cold and windy. So, we spent it inside,
watching our taped programs and I worked on the blog. Later, I shot a pic of the nice sunset....
Monday, April 13th., 2026…… This morning, I was up and going
early. I had a 7:30am dentist appointment. It was my 3-month cleaning. This
time I got x-rays as well but I was still out in less than an hour, so I
stopped and got us breakfast. Cat was barely up but had the dogs walked and
fed. A few hours later, we headed off to Albany for my first oncology visit.
This was a consult. Dr. Yeh went over the plan – I will get a surgery
scheduled to have markers put in around my prostate and at that time they will
also put in what they call a blocker so the radiation will only target the
prostate area. I later got that scheduled for May 19. After that is done, they
will schedule me for once a day – Mon-Fri - for 5 to 5 ½ weeks for an 8-minute
radiation treatment. He explained that it is simple and will most likely only
tire me out after a few treatments. My friend, Mike, just completed his treatment
and he said he was tired but most of that was the 30-minute drive each way to Corvallis
every day! Once we were done, we stopped
and got some burritos for lunch and came back home and were done for the day.
Tv and spa and bed.
Tuesday, April 14th., 2026…… Another early morning. But today
was only labs for my upcoming wellness physical with my primary care doctor. I
made the run to Albany and got that done. Later, we worked a little on getting
things ready for our upcoming campout at Camp Koinonia later this week. We are
again in charge of the Saturday breakfast. This year, we are doing eggs, bacon,
sausage, and gravy and rolls. We have assigned (or are getting volunteers tbd)
folks for bacon and sausage. I am doing the eggs. Anyway, that is going
smoothly so far.
Wednesday, April 15th., 2026…… Today is my urology appointment. But for today, it was my CT Urogram. It will determine if the cancer has moved into other parts of my body. The test took maybe 30 minutes total. The only issue I had was that the technician had to poke me a few times in both arms to get an iv into me! But once I was ready, it was easy to just lay there. I would find out later in the day that there was no significant findings in other organs. But that was me looking at the 'medicalese' language on MyChart! Next week I go in for another meeting with the urologist who will talk more about it.
Thursday, April 16th., 2026…… No medical for either of us today so we spent time getting things ready
for the campout. I think the motorhome is ready but I’m still worried about the
bedroom slide. I checked it and it looks like it’s working! Yaay! We both got our clothes and cooking items in
the rig and we are ready. They won’t let us ion the camp until noon so I don’t
have to pull the coach out of the garage until morning. That done, we are
ready!
Friday, April 17th., 2026…… Once we had the motorhome out and
ready, Cathye took off in the truck (because we are expecting more donations
for the yard sale and we wanted to make sure we could haul them) and I followed.
My plan was to stop and get fuel but the only station on the way had folks
lined up at the only diesel island I could access, so I headed on to the
campground. Mike got me parked and I got plugged in to electricity. This is not
a campground (it’s a church retreat) so we only have just 20 amps or so for
power. Not even enough for our electric heater, so I hope it’s not too cold at
night! After I got us hooked up, we started in getting unloaded and everything
staged in the kitchen for Saturday. Plus, we have our potluck dish for tonight.
The rest of the day was spent enjoying the group, having a nice potluck, and dancing
a bit. Tonight, we had a guest caller, who is dating one of my heroes – Barbie Ashwell,
who, along with her then husband Lee, were General Chairman of the Portland
National Square Dance Convention. I introduced myself and we shared a lot about
my work in several Nationals and we ended up knowing a lot of the same people.
Talk about a blast from the past! And
she was an advisor to our convention and always was so nice and helpful. As I
said, we danced a bit then headed back and called it a night. The motorhome was a little cold but once we
crawled into bed with the heating pad going, we slept fine.
Saturday, April 18th., 2026…… I was up early to go inside to
get things started for breakfast. It got super chilly in the motorhome last night
but Mike had the fireplace going and the room and kitchen were comfortable. I
had the coffee going and got things ready for our bacon and sausage cookers,
Joe and Nate. Thanks, guys! They managed their jobs well and we had the gravy
and eggs and everything timed and ready to serve at 8:30. Everyone said it was
yummy so I think it went well and we had enough eggs left for tomorrow’s
potluck breakfast as well. The rest of the day was spent relaxing and visiting
with our group. This place has dorms and cabins so each member can stay the
weekend even if they don’t have an rv. This
was our biggest event to date, with 9 rvs and 40 plus staying the nights. In
the afternoon, Shaun did a teach tip, explain hex squares. That’s 6-couple squares
instead of 4. That was fun! Later, we
had a couple in charge of dinner, which was a potato bake. They had this HUGE
bag of giant russet potatoes which they started cooking early, which made them
perfect for our feast! The Club brought ‘fixins’
for the taters and additional dishes to enjoy. It was also yummy! Later, Cathye wasn’t feeling well so we sat
out most of the night and just relaxed by the fire. The motorhome was a lot
warmer tonight and we slept great.
Here’s some pics from the weekend….
Puzzles and card games too!
Chillin by the fire! We are both beat!
Dam dance
